Job Description
The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin is seeking a full time Communications and Marketing Specialist to be part of a team positively focused on telling The American Legion story of who we are, what we do and why it matters. This high energy, highly motivated individual will be responsible for helping to create awareness and ensuring The American Legion mission is effectively and consistently communicated to our members and external audiences. 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
•             Use various communications platforms to communicate and promote The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin mission and provide information about the brand to internal and external stakeholders.
•             Build brand awareness and loyalty among internal and external audiences.
•             Lead in the development of a comprehensive communications plan and implementation of marketing campaigns that promote The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin programs and events.
•             Work with other team members and various stakeholders to promote and execute the comprehensive communication plan for The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin.
•             Assume the role of Programs Coordinator of the Wisconsin American Legion Baseball Program, one of the nation’s most successful amateur athletic programs.
•             Write, edit and produce the Department Newsletter (The Badger Legionnaire).  This will entail off-site interviews with Wisconsin Veterans, Districts, Counties and Posts.
•             Interact with various media outlets to promote The American Legion, Department of Wisconsin.
•             Manage and update Department Website and Social Media
•             Coordinate video and photo assets, as well as other media, maintaining an up-to-date repository for use by staff and members.
•             Write interesting and effective press releases and prepare information for media kits.
•             Serve as the staff liaison to the Communications Committee to assist in developing website, social media and communications training platforms to assist committee members and volunteers.
•             Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
•             High School graduate or equivalent required.
•             Post-secondary education in relevant field preferred.
•             Non-profit work experience is preferred.
•             Must have a valid driver’s license.
Language Skills
•             Ability to quickly develop a detailed knowledge of The American Legion brand along with understanding its objectives.
•             Strong leadership skills in project management with the ability to be highly proactive and work on multiple projects concurrently.
•             Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•             Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exceptional organization and time management skills.
•             Must be team-oriented, display a positive attitude, and be willing to assist in all aspects of office and program activity. 
•             Key attributes are initiative, creativity, flexibility, integrity, diplomacy, resourcefulness, and attention to detail.
•             High level of proficiency in the use of social media platforms, website management, personal computers and a variety of software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (e.g. Microsoft products) in a networked environment.
•             Strong digital photography and videography skills required; prefer experience with photo and video archiving/keyword tagging.
•             Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
•             Significant flexibility in work schedule, including the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
•             Strong social skills are essential, including strong listening, oral, and written communication abilities
