Portage Community Health & Wellness Event . . .

When: January 16, 2018, 4-7 p.m. (snow date – January 25)
Where: Rusch Elementary School, 117 West Franklin St.
Why: Several local businesses and organizations will be available to share information with community members that may help them improve/maintain their health and wellness.
“Wellness”, as defined by the National Wellness Institute, is an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence. This includes:
The following businesses/organizations will have information available that can help you maintain/improve your health and wellness.
- Aging & Disability Resource Center of Columbia County (services & support available to people over 60 or between 18-59 who have a disability, as well as their family)
- Anytime Fitness of Portage (overall fitness, programs and services they offer)
- Blau Family Chiropractic & Integrated Wellness Center (posture screening-the importance of posture to good health & how
to improve it)
- Costco (departments (hearing aids, optical, & pharmacy) and products available to help with health and wellness)
- Divine Savior Healthcare - Community Wellness & LaVita Fitness Center (community wellness offerings & fitness programs)
- Laura’s School of Dance & Tumbling (information on dance & tumbling classes in Portage)
- Lions Club (Pardeeville – diabetes awareness, Portage – vision screening for kids)
- Optimist Club of Portage (volunteer opportunities, Tri-Star Basketball)
- Portage Parks and Recreation Department (sport & recreation programming for the spring/summer of 2018)
- Portage Public Library (sign up for library cards, learn about events/services, & hands-on activity)
- Portage Community School District (highlight all that the district does for staff, students, and the community)
- Columbia County Health & Human Services, Division of Public Health (flu vaccine for adults 19 & older ($40 or bill Medicare) & Tdap for kids 10 & older (free), well water test kits for qualified individuals, and free gun locks from Prevent Suicide Columbia Co.)
- Tobacco-Free Columbia /Dane County Coalition (tobacco-free living, secondhand smoke, e-cigs, youth prevention, etc.)
- UW-Extension (available services, including nutrition information for families)
