We're in hot pursuit of the hottest place on the hillside: the Agency blacksmith shop. Come prepared to get dirty, learn a lot, and personally play an important part in the quest to expand our historical understanding of how the Agency—and particularly the blacksmith shop—functioned in the early 1830s.

Our objective through archaeological inquiry is to be able to educate with a more holistic perspective on the people, places, and significant events of the site's history. In the process, we also hope to foster within participants an appreciation and basic understanding of this important means by which history is preserved and interpreted.
Adults and children ages five and up with the direct supervision of a responsible adult are welcomed to try their hand at a variety of tasks from digging to screening and more. Participants will be guided through a 5-minute "Archaeology Boot Camp" before rolling up their sleeves to help excavate the site's buried history alongside the professional archaeology team. Join us for an exciting and educational time of inquiry and discovery.
Visitors may spectate for free, but a membership is required to participate in the dig hands-on with the professional archaeologists. Memberships may be purchased ahead of time or at the door. The cost is $15 for an individual or $36 for a family. Memberships also include free admission to all on-site events during the 2021 season, a free tour, and $1 off each 2021 Historic Preservation Edition of Wau-Bun purchased in our gift shop (no limit).Date and Time
