The Historic Indian Agency House will serve as headquarters for an upcoming gathering of brass-era automobiles. Around twenty brass cars may be viewed from 9 until 10:30am on Friday, September 25. The group, part of the Antique Automobile Club of America (Illinois Brass Touring Region) and the Horseless Carriage Club of America (Chicagoland Region), will then depart on a driving tour of the Portage area. They are visiting Portage as part of their fall 2015 tour. Being of the 'brass-era' means that most of the cars have brass trim, including the radiator, with kerosene side lights and gas headlights. Many of the cars on hand will be pre-1916 Model T Fords. Non-Fords are also expected, including a Stanley Steamer, a 1909 Regal, and a very rare Peerless. The group is best known as the Illinois Brass Touring Region but has members from throughout the Midwest including Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Brass car owners will be available to answer questions, and photographers are welcome. Visitors are encouraged to stay to tour the Historic Indian Agency House at the discounted rate of $5, explore the Agency House museum and museum shop, or hike the interpretive nature trail. There is no charge to view the cars, visit the museum, or hike the nature trail.
