The Historic Indian Agency House is excited to welcome Historian Mary Elise Antoine at 6:30pm on Tuesday, August 23. She will speak about her new book
The War of 1812 in Wisconsin: The Battle for Prairie du Chien.
The War of 1812 was a military conflict that lasted from 1812 to early 1815, and involved the United States and the United Kingdom, Native Americans, and North American colonies. Antoine will discuss the involvement and alliances of various Native American tribes during the war, with a special focus on the Winnebago (Ho-Chunk) people.
Mary Elise Antoine is the president of the Prairie du Chien Historical Society and former curator at Villa Louis. She has written numerous articles and books on Prairie du Chien, including two volumes with Arcadia Publishing. She is co-editor, with Lisa Murphy, of
Frenchtown Chronicles of Prairie du Chien: History and Folklore from Wisconsin’s Frontier, forthcoming from the Wisconsin Historical Society Press.
